"Working hard to earn your trust"
CONLON is a Two Row Feed/Malt Variety released in North
Dakota. Introduced to Manitoba in 2002, acres planted to CONLON in Manitoba
soon increased and has been the # 1 barley in Manitoba since 2004! CONLON is
a malt variety, but mostly malsters only select CONLON when the supplies of
other varieties are limited.
What really impresses me about CONLON is the consistent quality, yield and
early maturity. CONLON always delivers quality and high energy . . .
always, you can bank on it. J.S.

MILT KRAHN - Clearwater
“We grew CONLON beside our AC Metcalfe barley in
2001.The CONLON was earlier maturing and stood much better than our AC
Metcalfe. At harvest we got a better yield with CONLON but what really
impressed us was the superior bushel weight and the large sized kernels.
We’ll definitely be growing this variety again.”
RANDY FALK - Crystal City
“CONLON barley is the highest quality barley we’ve
ever grown.”
For Manitoba Barley Yield Data: Check the
Manitoba's Management Plus Program when it is updated.
CONLON was amongst the highest yielding 2-row barleys grown in
Manitoba according to "Yield Manitoba 2003-2006" data every year since
introduction.
We feel CONLON barley is for the farmer that wants a
barley that will consistently provide the highest quality barley year after
year.
CONLON needs high end growers with good management
practices such as high fertility and high seeding rates. We are currently
working on getting greater acceptance of CONLON from the Canadian maltsters.
Our experience in growing CONLON and US data leads us
to believe the yields of CONLON are comparable to Robust. CONLON is an early
heavy barley that needs to be harvested early. Some yield trials are
harvested extremely late considering CONLON’S early maturity and this can
result in skewed yield results.
